Raw-Fired Earthenware
For the last 3 decades I have produced work with red earthenware clays, slab, slumped, carved, beaten, coiled, sometimes modelled but mostly thrown.
At first I made red clay pots, slip decoration with honey glazes, and then blue and black slips were also used,
with two glazes, clear and honey.
Later I explored oxides and under-glazed colours, painted on white slipped surfaces, raw firing in a 65 cubic foot, downdraft, trolley kiln: 10 to 12 kilns were fired each year. Examples of the work may seen on this website.
An archival collection can be viewed by appointment.
Now I am researching porcelain, begining with a trip to China including a residency at Jingdezhen making my first porcelain pots at (possibly) the worlds centre for porcelain working.
On my return the plans for kiln building will begin....
